Old years

Vieux Millésimes

More than 45 old years…

...distributed over 3 centuries...

One of the family traditions of the Puig-Parahÿ dynasty is to preserve a sweet wine barrel of the year of birth of each child like at the time of particular events, like the marriages or the years of excellent harvests. The accumulation of the barrels and the tanks gave rise to a fabulous collection thus going up time until...
1875.

The very old sweet wines : seven wines of legend

2001 Cuvée Georges Puig: This particular wine has a splendid dark red shade with light reflections of mahogany. There is a lot of fig on the nose as well as nuttiness and nuances of balsamic. The mouth is sumptuous, dense, wonderfully softened with a very beautiful balance of liquor, savours of Cacao. It is finished with praline and eucalyptus. This is a wine of meditation.
1977 Cuvée Georges Puig : This wine has a  jam and fig on the nose feel.  Light acidity gives it complex flavour. This wine is full and fleshy on the mouth with tobacco.  It is rather soft and beautifully balanced.
1963 Cuvée Georges Puig : Fruity nose with chocolate. Mocha and roasted tobacco balance the high alcohol concentration. This wine is surprising for its age.
1953 Cuvée Georges Puig : Brandy nose. Nose reduces, closed some attacks, then it takes grades of morello cherry with brandy, of salsify ; a little burnt rubber, “quinquina”. The balance is interesting.
1930 Cuvée Salamo-Noëll : Fruity nose of cooked plum and orange zest.  Brandy and fruit explode in the mouth in this jammy wine. This very big wine is beautifully balanced with high alcohol.
1910 Cuvée Veuve Parahÿ : Nose at the start is more difficult; cardamom, pepper and tar.  It is gentler in the mouth.  It is highly concentrated with an exceptionally long finish.  There are not many wines like it.
1898 Cuvée Joseph Noëll : Fruity nose of dried grapes, cocoa, and old rum. More alcohol than the preceding ones, but the remark above always is in force. This wine is very beautifully balanced, as impressive as the 1910 and 1930.
